I still have yet to do the valve adjustment as my shipment from Ma’s Cycles including the gaskets and special tools and such has yet to arrive. I’ll probably be doing the valve adjustment next weekend rather than going to Red Lodge.
I’ve been riding my bike since the test ride home from Great Falls last weekend when I ran out of gas due to really crappy gas mileage. The bike runs great but I’ve got to make some additional adjustments to the carbs. Plus I’ve been riding a lot less aggressively, just to see how my mileage is under normal conditions.
This weekend, in addition to the jetting changes, I’ll be removing the wheels Sunday evening (finally) to get the skins replaced. They still have a bit of tread left but I’ve only got a couple weeks until the British Columbia trip and I’m not riding those twisty roads with worn tires.
Lastly, hopefully, I can get Gene to paint my right saddlebag so I can put it back together and put the new locks into both bags. I’ve been tempted to buy new bags just because he has just been too busy to paint it, but I don’t want to spend the money if I don’t absolutely have to.
Update, 7/10: The new jets made a huge difference on the trip to Great Falls Sunday. I had nearly the same top end power, much more bottom end power, a much smoother powerband overall and much better (but not great) gas mileage. As a bonus, Gene painted my saddlebag so I can put the new locks in my bags this weekend and mount them up.
